Week 3: The Spark of Life

Baby is about the size of Microscopic cluster of cells

Baby development

Ovulation occurs mid-cycle. The dominant follicle releases an egg into the fallopian tube where fertilization may occur. If sperm meets egg, a zygote forms containing the complete genetic blueprint. Genetic sex is determined at fertilization.

Your body

Ovulation may cause mild cramping (mittelschmerz). Basal body temperature rises after ovulation due to progesterone. Cervical mucus becomes clear and stretchy.

What is important now

The fertilization window is brief (12-24 hours post-ovulation). Continue prenatal vitamins.
